Effective Date: October 18, 2026
WanderSafe LLC (“WanderSafe,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website at wandersafe.com, our mobile applications, our WanderSafe Beacon 3.0 hardware device, and any related services (collectively, the “Services”).
By accessing or using our Services, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not access or use our Services.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Personal Information You Provide
We collect information that you voluntarily provide to us when you:
- Create an account or register for our Services
- Purchase or activate a WanderSafe Beacon 3.0 device
- Complete your user profile or emergency contact details
- Participate in our Master Sage community program
- Submit safety reports or zone validations
- Contact our support team or submit inquiries
- Subscribe to our newsletters or marketing communications
This information may include:
- Full name, email address, and phone number
- Billing address and payment information
- Emergency contact names and phone numbers
- Profile photograph and biographical details
- Employer or organization name (for enterprise accounts)
- Travel itineraries and destination information
1.2 Location Data
Our Services rely on location data to deliver safety intelligence. With your explicit consent, we collect:
- Real-time GPS coordinates from your mobile device and WanderSafe Beacon 3.0
- Historical location data to generate personalized safety reports
- Geofence boundary data for zone alerts and safety notifications
- Approximate location derived from IP address or Wi-Fi networks
You may disable location services at any time through your device settings, though this will limit the functionality of certain core safety features.
If location services are on, we also keep anonymized location samples to understand, in aggregate, where people use WanderSafe and how safe those places are. We record at most one sample every five minutes, rounded to an area about 150 metres across and to a five-minute window. Samples are never stored with your name, account or device. Each one carries a random identifier that we generate fresh every day; we keep the link between you and that day’s identifier only until the day ends, then delete it, after which the samples can’t be connected to you or to each other across days. You can turn this off at any time (see Section 5).
1.3 Automatically Collected Information
When you use our Services, we automatically collect certain technical information, including:
- Device type, operating system, and unique device identifiers
- Browser type and version
- IP address and general geographic location
- Usage patterns, pages visited, and feature interactions
- Beacon 3.0 device telemetry data (battery level, connectivity status, sensor readings)
- Crash reports and performance diagnostics
1.4 Device Permissions
To provide our safety features, the WanderSafe app may request access to the following device capabilities:
- Camera: Used for profile photo capture, video calls during emergency communication, and in-app media sharing.
- Microphone: Used for audio and video calls during emergency situations and community reporting.
- Location (When In Use / Always): “When In Use” location powers safety heatmaps and real-time alerts. “Always” location, if you opt in, enables background monitoring for Beacon 3.0 device connectivity and emergency geofencing features.
- Push Notifications: Used to deliver critical safety alerts, SOS confirmations, community updates, and Beacon 3.0 device status notifications.
- Contacts (optional): If granted, used to suggest emergency contacts from your address book. Contact data is never stored on our servers without your explicit action.
You can manage these permissions at any time through your device’s Settings app. Disabling certain permissions may limit the functionality of related safety features.
1.5 Information from Third Parties
We may receive information about you from third-party sources, including:
- Identity verification providers for account security
- Payment processors for transaction confirmation
- Your employer or organization (for enterprise-provisioned accounts)
- Public safety databases and government travel advisories
- Social media platforms, if you choose to link your accounts
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
2.1 Safety and Core Service Delivery
- Providing real-time safety alerts and location-based intelligence
- Activating emergency broadcast features and contacting your designated emergency contacts
- Generating personalized safety scores for destinations and zones
- Operating the WanderSafe Beacon 3.0 device and its associated monitoring services
- Facilitating the Master Sage community reporting and validation system
- Safety insights. We combine anonymized location samples into hourly statistics: how many people were in an area, when, and the safety score of that area. We use these statistics to improve our safety maps and models, to understand demand by city and country, and to produce aggregate reports.
2.2 Account Management
- Creating and managing your user account
- Processing transactions and sending purchase confirmations
- Administering Hero Points rewards and community leaderboard rankings
- Providing customer support and responding to your inquiries
2.3 Enterprise Services
- Supporting organizational duty-of-care compliance requirements
- Generating travel risk assessments for enterprise clients
- Integrating with client CRM and human resources systems
- Providing aggregate safety analytics and reporting dashboards
If you belong to an organization on WanderSafe, your anonymized samples are also counted towards that organization’s aggregate reports, for example how many member-hours were spent in each city or in areas of different safety levels. Organizations never see individual samples or who contributed them, and any area and hour with fewer than three members is withheld from their reports. This does not change what organizations can see during an active SOS alert, which is described in Section 3.3.
2.4 Improvement and Analytics
- Analyzing usage patterns to improve our Services and user experience
- Training and improving our JENI AI safety intelligence engine
- Conducting research and development for new safety features
- Monitoring and improving the performance of our platform infrastructure
2.5 Communications
- Sending critical safety notifications and emergency alerts
- Delivering service announcements, updates, and maintenance notices
- Sending marketing communications (with your consent, where required)
3. Information Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information in the following circumstances:
3.1 Emergency Situations
When you activate an emergency broadcast or when our system detects a potential safety threat, we may share your location data and relevant personal information with:
- Your designated emergency contacts
- Local emergency services and first responders
- Your employer’s duty-of-care team (for enterprise accounts)
- Relevant embassy or consulate services when traveling internationally
3.2 Service Providers
We engage trusted third-party service providers who perform functions on our behalf, including cloud hosting, payment processing, analytics, email delivery, and customer support. These providers are contractually obligated to protect your information and may only use it to perform services for us.
3.3 Enterprise Clients
If your account is provisioned through an enterprise or organizational subscription, we may share certain account and usage information with your organization’s administrators as necessary for duty-of-care compliance and travel risk management.
3.4 Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information when required to:
- Comply with applicable laws, regulations, or legal processes
- Respond to lawful requests from public authorities, including law enforcement
- Protect the rights, property, or safety of WanderSafe, our users, or the public
- Enforce our Terms of Service or other agreements
3.5 Business Transfers
In the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will provide notice before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
4. Data Security
We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include:
- End-to-end encryption for location data transmitted between your device and our servers
- AES-256 encryption for data at rest
- TLS 1.3 for all data in transit
- Regular security audits and penetration testing
- Role-based access controls and multi-factor authentication for internal systems
- SOC 2 Type II compliance for our infrastructure operations
While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information.
5.1 Rights Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, you have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data
- Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data under certain conditions
- Restriction: Request restriction of processing of your personal data
- Portability: Receive your personal data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format
- Objection: Object to the processing of your personal data for direct marketing or based on legitimate interests
- Withdraw Consent: Withdraw your consent at any time where processing is based on consent
Our legal bases for processing your information include: performance of a contract (providing our Services), legitimate interests (improving our Services, ensuring safety), consent (marketing communications, location data collection), and legal obligations (compliance with applicable laws).
We process location samples to produce anonymized safety insights on the basis of our legitimate interests in improving safety information for our users and customers. We minimise the data at collection (coarse area, coarse time, no identifiers, daily-rotating random ID) and you can object at any time by turning the setting off.
5.2 Rights Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know: Request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you
- Delete: Request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions
- Opt-Out: Opt out of the sale of your personal information. WanderSafe does not sell personal information
- Non-Discrimination: Not receive discriminatory treatment for exercising your privacy rights
In the preceding 12 months, we have collected the following categories of personal information: identifiers (name, email, phone number), commercial information (purchase history), internet or electronic network activity (usage data), geolocation data, and professional or employment-related information (for enterprise accounts).
5.3 Exercising Your Rights
To exercise any of these rights, please contact our privacy team. We will respond to your request within 30 days (or as required by applicable law). We may need to verify your identity before processing your request.
Opting out of location insights. Turn off “Anonymous location insights” in Settings in the WanderSafe app, or contact our privacy team. This stops new samples immediately. Samples collected earlier cannot be identified as yours, so they cannot be retrieved, corrected or deleted individually; they expire on the schedule in Section 7
6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to:
- Essential Cookies: Enable core functionality such as authentication, session management, and security
- Analytics Cookies: Help us understand how visitors interact with our website and Services
- Preference Cookies: Remember your settings and personalization choices
- Marketing Cookies: Deliver relevant advertisements and measure campaign effectiveness
You can manage your cookie preferences through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Please note that disabling cookies may affect the functionality of our Services.
7. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. Specifically:
- Account information is retained for the duration of your account and for up to 30 days after account deletion
- Historical safety reports and zone validations are retained for up to 3 years to maintain community safety data integrity
- Transaction records are retained for 7 years as required by tax and accounting regulations
- Emergency incident data is retained for 5 years for legal and compliance purposes
- Anonymized location samples (no account link): 90 days.
- Aggregated location statistics (counts per area and hour, no individual data): retained indefinitely.
8. Children’s Privacy
Our Services are not intended for children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 16 without parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact our privacy team.
9. Higher Education & Student Privacy (FERPA)
When WanderSafe Services are provided through a partnership with an accredited college, university, or educational institution (“Educational Partner”), we strictly comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99):
- School Official Designation: WanderSafe acts as a designated “School Official” with legitimate educational and campus safety interests, performing an institutional service for which the institution would otherwise use its own employees.
- Direct Control & Purpose Limitation: All student education records and safety data remain under the direct control of the Educational Partner and are used exclusively for campus safety, incident response, and emergency dispatch.
- No Commercial Re-Use: Student data is never sold, leased, or disclosed to third parties for targeted advertising or non-safety commercial profiling.
- Student Sovereignty & Location Controls: Location telemetry is only shared with campus authorities when an active emergency SOS alert is initiated or during voluntary safety check-ins. Continuous off-campus background monitoring is strictly prohibited without explicit student consent.
- Detailed Terms: Review our dedicated Organization Membership & Data-Access Terms for institution-specific data governance rules.
Location insights for educational institutions do not include student presence data; students’ anonymized samples are used only in WanderSafe’s platform-wide statistics.
10. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than the country in which you reside. These countries may have data protection laws that are different from the laws of your country. We take appropriate safeguards to ensure that your personal information remains protected in accordance with this Privacy Policy, including:
- Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission
- Data Processing Agreements with all third-party processors
- Encryption of data in transit and at rest for all cross-border transfers
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technologies, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make material changes, we will:
- Post the updated Privacy Policy on this page with a revised “Effective Date”
- Notify you via email or through a prominent notice within our Services
- Obtain your consent where required by applicable law
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about how we are protecting your information.

13. Website self-assessment and email results
If you choose to complete the Optimal Readiness (OR) self-assessment on our website, we process the answers you provide to calculate a self-reported score and identify areas you rated as potential priorities. We do not display the score on the results page. If you explicitly request email delivery, we use your name and email address to send your score and recommendations. With that request, we record your contact details, score, score band, and priority areas in our customer relationship management system so we can deliver your result and provide relevant follow-up. Raw question responses are not retained after the score and recommendations are calculated.
The score reflects your self-reported answers only. It is an educational readiness indicator and is not a legal opinion, independent audit, or certification of compliance. Choosing to receive the requested score is separate from the optional choice to receive product and feature marketing updates. Marketing updates are sent only when you separately opt in, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
The assessment form and its score-delivery process use our website service providers, including our CRM provider and email-delivery provider, to process the information for these purposes. Please do not include sensitive incident details in your responses.
